Today I will teach you how to make apple turnovers. These apple turnovers are a traditional popular pastry in the Netherlands that is eaten all year round. In Dutch they are called Appelflappen. These turnovers are one of the easiest pastries that you can make. It’s made with puff pastry and stuffed with sugar - cinnamon seasoned apples.

You probably have seen these apple turnovers at stores, why not make homemade apple turnovers yourself? This apple turnovers recipe is very easy to make. Apple turnovers are delicious eaten hot fresh out of the oven plain or served with some ice cream! You can eat them for dessert or for your lunch break.

Dutch Apple Turnovers Ingredients

✿ 1 Apple
✿ Puff Pastry Sheet
✿ Cinnamon
✿ Brown Sugar
✿ Egg
✿ White Sugar

Let’s make the apple filling first. Peel and cut the apple in small squares. Use your favorite type of apple for this recipe. Season apples to taste with brown sugar and cinnamon. You could also use white sugar.





Cut puff pastry sheets in 6 pieces. Roll out the puff pastry a little bit to make it into a square. Add desired amount of apple mixture in the middle. Fold the bottom corner up to shape it into a triangle. Seal and press the edges with a fork.



Place the pastries on a baking sheet. Brush egg wash on top and sprinkle with some sugar.

Bake the pastries at 400F for 15 - 20 min until golden brown.





Serve while warm, cold or with some ice cream! ✿◕ ‿ ◕✿

TIPS & NOTES
✿ You can use your favorite type of apples for this recipe.
✿ Some stores have the square shaped puff pastry sheets available. You don’t need to cut these if it has the right size.
