Air Fried Japanese Fried Shrimp | Ebi Fry Recipe

Today I have an air fried recipe. We will learn how to make Air Fried Japanese Fried Shrimp. Japanese Fried Shrimp also known as ebi fry, Ebi furai or shrimp katsu is shrimp coated with panko bread crumbs and fried until golden brown and crispy. Instead of frying our shrimp we will be using an air fryer to turn it into a healthier ebi fry recipe.

Ebi fry is a popular menu item. This Japanese ebi fry recipe can be served as a snack, with noodles, or as a side dish. You can serve Japanese fried shrimp with tartar sauce or tonkatsu sauce. These Air Fried Ebi fry are super crispy and light. It takes less than 10 minutes to cook the panko shrimp recipe in the air fryer. Of course you can also make deep fried shrimp by deep frying it instead of air frying.

Ebi Fry Ingredients

✿ Shrimp
✿ ½ Cup Flour
✿ 1 Tablespoon Curry Powder
✿ Cayenne Pepper
✿ 1 Egg
✿ Panko Bread Crumbs

How To Make Air Fried Shrimp

Clean and peel shrimp if needed

For straight shrimp: Make a few cuts on the bottom of the shrimp. Carefully press it down to straighten the shrimp. Season to taste.


To make the coating for the shrimp in a bowl add the flour. Season flour to taste. (Use your favorite seasoning. I used curry powder and cayenne pepper). In another bowl beat up an egg. In the last bowl add panko bread crumbs.

First, coat the shrimp with flour. Dip in the egg. Shake of excess egg. Lastly, coat with panko. Lightly press it to make it stick to the shrimp.




Preheat air fryer. Carefully place shrimp in the air fryer. Spray with some oil. Air fry the shrimp at 400F for 8 minutes. Flip halfway.






Serve with your favorite sauce as a snack or as a side dish with dinner.

TIPS & NOTES
✿ Curry Powder and Cayenne Pepper are optional. You can add your own favorite seasoning to the flour.
✿ Depending on the brand of the air fryer. Time and temperature might differ.
