Lo Mai Fan Recipe 糯米飯 | Chinese Sticky Rice Recipe

Today we will learn how to make Chinese sticky rice, also known as lo mai fan 糯米飯. You can find Chinese sticky rice at dim sum places or Chinese restaurants. Lo Mai Fan is similar to lo mai gai (Lotus wrapped sticky rice)

The process of making Chinese sticky rice is similar to regular fried rice, just using different ingredients. For our sticky rice we will be using cured pork belly, chinese sausage, shiitake mushroom and dried shrimp. Feel free to change the ingredients to your personal preferences. In this lo mai fan recipe I will show you a simple way on how to make Chinese sticky rice without a rice cooker.

Lo Mai Fan 糯米飯 | Chinese Sticky Rice

Lo Mai Fan Ingredients

✿ 1 Chinese Sausage
✿ ¼ Piece Cured Pork Belly
✿ 3 - 4 Shiitake Mushrooms
✿ 1 Clove Garlic
✿ 2 Spring Onions
✿ Dried Shrimp

✿ 1¼ Cup Glutinous Rice
✿ ¼ Cup Jasmine Rice
✿ ½ Teaspoon Dark Soy Sauce
✿ 1½ Cup Water

Wash the rice until the water is clear. Optional: Add soy sauce for a darker color rice.

Cook rice on the stovetop or in a rice cooker. If using the stovetop bring to a boil. Simmer for approx. 10 minutes. When ready, let it sit for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes fluff up the rice. Add a little bit of oil to the rice and mix. Set aside until use.




Cut ingredients in preferred sizes. Change amount of ingredients according personal preferences.






Heat up pan with some oil. Add all the ingredients and stir fry until fragrant. Season to taste with favorite seasoning. Add cooked sticky rice. Stir fry until combined.

TIPS & NOTES
✿ Adjust ingredients to personal preferences.
✿ Adding soy sauce to cook the rice is optional.
