Recipes To Celebrate Sinterklaas
If you’re looking for a delightful treat that embodies the warmth and spice of the holiday season, look no further than speculaasbrokken. These traditional Dutch cookies, known for their rich flavors and crunchy texture, are a beloved snack in many households. If you can’t buy them at the store like me, you can easily make them at home!
Speculaasbrokken are thick, spiced cookies that originate from the Netherlands. They are typically made with a blend of aromatic spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger, giving them a distinctive flavor profile. Unlike their thinner counterparts, speculaas cookies, brokken are chunkier and have a delightful crunch, making them perfect for snacking or pairing with your favorite beverage.
Speculaas has a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages in the Netherlands. Traditionally baked to celebrate St. Nicholas’ Day / Sinterklaas, these cookies were often shaped into intricate designs. Over time, the recipe evolved, leading to the creation of speculaasbrokken, which are enjoyed year-round. Their unique blend of spices and textures has made them a staple in Dutch culture and beyond.
