Today I have a new air fryer recipe for you! This Salt and Pepper Tofu made in the Air Fryer is ultra crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and packed with bold garlic, chili, and pepper flavor. If you’re looking for a healthy, easy, and delicious plant-based recipe, this air fryer tofu will become your new favorite!

No deep frying needed! Using the air fryer gives you that crispy restaurant-style texture with less oil and less mess. This Chinese-inspired salt and pepper tofu is perfect as a main dish, side dish, or high-protein vegan snack.

I’ll show you how to make perfectly crispy tofu in the air fryer and toss it with aromatic garlic, scallions, and chili for that authentic salt and pepper flavor.

✿ 4 Garlic Cloves
✿ 2 Spring Onions
✿ Red Chili Peppers
✿ Fried Onions
✿ 4 Tablespoons Cornstarch

Prep Tofu

Cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes
Bring a pot of water to a boil. Gently add the tofu and blanch for about 5 minutes. Remove the tofu and pat it completely dry with paper towels. Lightly season the tofu with salt and pepper. Toss gently, then coat evenly with cornstarch until all sides are lightly covered. Place tofu in a single layer in your air fryer basket. Lightly spray with oil. Air fry at 375°F for 12–15 minutes, shaking halfway, until golden and crispy.


Season

In a pan over medium heat, add a little oil and sauté the minced garlic until fragrant. Add crispy tofu and toss. Sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and any extras like chili flakes or fried onions. Toss everything together until well coated.


Eat as a snack or serve as a side dish.

TIPS & NOTES
✿ Blanch tofu for better texture (optional but recommended)
✿ You can also deep fry or pan fry the tofu until crispy if you prefer.
✿ Use extra-firm tofu for best results
