Today we will make a Chinese bakery item. We will learn how to make chinese baked hot dog bun. These chinese hot dog bun have a nice combination of sweet and savory. The soft sweet milk bread combines well with the savory hot dog.

These hot dog buns are great for breakfast, lunch or just a yummy snack. Skip the trip to the asian bakery and make your own bakery style bread at home!

Hot Dog Bun

Hot Dog Bun Ingredients

Tangzhong :
✿ 25 Grams Bread Flour
✿ 80 Milliliters Milk

Dough:
✿ 400 Grams Bread Flour
✿ 120 Milliliters Milk
✿ 7 Grams Yeast
✿ 15 Grams Sugar
✿ 80 Grams Condensed Milk
✿ 1 Egg
✿ ½ Teaspoon Salt
✿ 55 Grams Butter

✿ Hot Dog

Bake 350F | 20 Min.


Tangzhong: 25G Bread Flour + 80Ml Milk
Cook on low heat until a paste. Cool down before use.


Activate the yeast with lukewarm milk and sugar. Add all the ingredients except the butter to a stand mixer. Mix on low speed for 3 minutes. Add the butter and mix again on low speed for 3 Min. Turn up speed to medium. Mix for another 3 minutes. Total mixing time 9 minutes. Place dough in a greased bowl. Let it rest for 1 hour. 


Divide dough in 10 equal pieces . First shape each dough into a ball. Flatten ball with a roller in a thin rectangle. Roll it up into a string. Pinch to seal the bottom. Roll it out more in a long string.

Wrap dough around a hot dog. Tuck the edges underneath
Proof for 1 hour

Brush with egg wash
Optional: sprinkle with sesame seeds.

Bake 350F | 20Min
Cool down on cooling rack.

TIPS & NOTES
✿ Instead of using the stand mixer you can knead by hand as well. Kneading by hand will take approx 20 - 25 min.
