Chinese Youtiao Recipe With Egg | Chinese Fried Dough Sticks Made at Home 油条

Discover the secret to making mouthwatering Chinese Youtiao 油条, known as "fried dough sticks," right in your own kitchen. Youtiao is a popular dim sum item and is usually served with porridge or Soy milk. You can also find Youtiao rolled in rice noodles named Zhaliang.
I have made a youtiao recipe before. In this updated video I will show you a version with egg which makes the youtiao extra fluffy and soft.

Youtiao (油条) - Chinese Fried Donut
Ingredients
✿ 300 Grams Bread Flour
✿ 1½ Teaspoon Baking Powder
✿ ½ Teaspoon baking soda
✿ ½ teaspoon salt
✿ 1 Egg
✿ 130 Milliliters Milk
✿ 15 Grams Butter

Mix the dry ingredients. Add the wet ingredients and knead until a dough forms. Cover and rest for 10 minutes.
Knead dough for 2 minutes until smooth.
Wrap with plastic film. Refrigerate overnight.
The next day, bring dough to room temp for 1 hour.
Dust working area. Roll out the dough in a rectangle approx. 5MM thick.
While working on the dough you can preheat some oil in a pan.
Cut the dough in 12 strips
*This recipe makes 6 Youtiao
Use wet chopsticks to apply some water in the middle.
Place another dough on top. Firmly press in the middle with chopsticks lengthwise.
Carefully stretch out the youtiao and slide it in the oil
*Oil Temp between 380F - 400F
Keep turning the youtiao with chopsticks
Continue frying until golden brown
Serve with porridge, soy milk or use it to make zhaliang!

TIPS & NOTES
✿ Use double acting baking powder. If using regular baking powder they won’t puff up as much.
✿ Keep turning the Youtiao with chopsticks or tongs so they will grow big evenly
✿ On day 2 the Youtiao needs to be completely back to room temperature before assembling. Will take Approx. 2- 3 hrs.
✿ The Youtiao can be stored in the freezer after frying. When ready to consume, warm it up in the oven.
