Today we will learn how to make homemade rice cakes! Asian rice cake also known as Garaetteok in korean. Rice cake for rice cake soup are made with rice flour and pounded/kneaded until chewy. Have you heard about this popular rice cake dish? You might have heard of tteokbokki. Rice cake for tteokbokki are often cylinder shaped but you can also find balls or other shapes.

You can eat freshly made rice cake with honey or you can use it to make other yummy dishes. They are soft and chewy!

Rice Cake Ingredients

✿ 2 Cups Frozen Short Grain Rice Flour
✿ ½ Teaspoon Salt
✿ 1 Cup Hot Water
✿ Sesame Oil

Make Batter

Pour In Greased Bowl.

Steam

High Heat 20 -25 Min.

Shape In Desired Shapes.

How to Make Water Roux

Mix flour, salt and water. Mix until combined. Oil a heat proof bowl. Pour in the rice cake batter.






Bring a pot with water to a boil. Carefully place the bowl inside. Steam on high heat for 20 - 25 min.




Coat working area with a thin layer of sesame oil
Pound rice cake approx. 5 min. This will create a chewy texture. Once soft and smooth It's time to shape them. Roll in a string and cut in desired sizes. Or cut in small pieces and shape them in balls.

Enjoy them fresh with some honey or make a dish with it!
