Since the weather is getting hotter I have a nice refreshing drink recipe for you today. Today we will learn how to make mexican horchata. We will be making Horchata!

What is Horchata?

Horchata also known as orxata or rice milk drink is a plant based drink. The base of the drink is made with rice. There are different versions of horchata. We will be making the mexican horchata. This horchata recipe is made with rice, different types of milks and cinnamon. It is very refreshing and creamy with a nice cinnamon flavor to it.

I will show you how easy it is to make horchata. Horchata is super refreshing and has a nice sweetness to it. You can adjust the sweetness to your mexican horchata recipe to suit your personal preferences. Horchata pairs well with almost everything. I love to drink my Horchata with some sandwiches when we picnic outside or served with some ice for a refreshing drink when we bbq during the summer.

Horchata | Rice Water

Horchata Ingredients

✿ 1 Cup Rice
✿ 4 Cups Hot Water
✿ 2 Cinnamon Sticks
✿ 1 Can (350 Ml) Evaporated Milk
✿ 1 Can (395 G) Condensed Milk
✿ 3 - 4 Cups Cold Water

Soak Ingredients

Soak for 4 Hours.

Strain Mixture

Strain To Remove Pulp.

Add Milks And Sweetener

Strain Through Cheesecloth.

Serve

Serve Cold With Ice.

Horchata Recipe

Break cinnamon stick in small pieces. Add Cinnamon and water to a blender. Add the hot water and let everything soak in the blender for at least 4 hours.




After soaking, blend on high speed approx 5 min. Strain the mixture to remove the pulp.Use a spatula to press out the liquid.



Add the milks, stir until combined
*Optional: Add sugar and vanilla extract Add water depending on personal taste. I added 4 cups extra water. Mix again until combined

Strain again. This time use a cheesecloth to remove remaining pulp. Squeeze out the liquid.


Serve cold or store in a clean jar

TIPS & NOTES
✿ Instead of soaking the rice and cinnamon for 2 hours with hot water, you can also soak it overnight using room temperature water.
✿ Add extra sugar or vanilla extract if preferred.
✿ Adjust Thickness by adding more or less water.
