What Is Vla?

Today we will learn how to make vla. What is vla? Vla is a Dutch pudding popular in the Netherlands. It is a chocolate | vanilla custard recipe for a sweet creamy pudding made with fresh milk, eggs and sugar.

Dutch vla can be found in grocery stores in the Netherlands already made. There are different flavors of vla. Vanilla and chocolate vla are the most popular flavors.

You can compare the vla custard recipe to the jello pudding or a thin vanilla custard. The Dutch version is thinner and silkier.

How To Make Dutch Pudding?

Today I will show you how to make chocolate vla. You can also make a vanilla version by eliminating the chocolate and add vanilla extract. You can eat the custard pudding plain or add some toppings to it. This custard is a great snack or dessert for kids and adults!

Chocolade Vla | Dutch Chocolate Pudding

Vla Ingredients

✿ 500 Milliliters Milk
✿ 50 Grams Chocolate Chips
✿ 1 Teaspoon Cocoa Powder
✿ 2 Egg Yolks
✿ 50 Grams Sugar
✿ 20 Grams Cornstarch


Heat Up Milk

Heat Up Milk Until Warm.

Add Milk

Add Flavored Milk In Batches.

Strain

Strain Into Pan.

Cook

Cook Until Thickened.


In a pan add milk, chocolate chips and cocoa powder. Heat it up until the chocolate is completely melted.
*Milk doesn’t need to be cooked until boiling hot.






Combine the egg yolks, sugar and cornstarch. Slowly pour the heated milk in 2 batches to the batter while you keep whisking. ✿◕ ‿ ◕✿






Strain the mixture back in a pan to remove clumps.






Cook on low - medium heat until it thickens. When ready pour in a bowl and let it cool down completely.

Serve Cold! Delicious to eat it plain or serve it with some toppings! ^-^

TIPS & NOTES
✿ To make vanilla flavor. Eliminate the chocolate chips and cocoa powder and add some vanilla bean or vanilla extract.
✿ You can also use flavored milk to make different flavors.
✿ The pudding will thicken more when it’s cooling down.
✿ Store in the fridge for 3 - 5 days.
✿ It’s usually eaten plain but you can add your favorite toppings! ✿◕ ‿ ◕✿
