How To Make Hachee | Dutch Beef Stew

Today we will learn how to make a dutch dish. Do you want to learn some new dutch dishes or are you missing some dutch food while living abroad? We will learn how to make hachee!

What Is Hachee?

Hachee is a dutch stew. The stew is made with beef and onions. Usually this dutch beef stew recipe is served with mashed potatoes or braised red cabbage. I will be serving it with mashed potatoes.

Since the winter is approaching it will be a perfect time to learn how to make hachee. Hachee is a perfect winter comfort food. Dutch beef stew was one of the dishes I grew up with. In the Netherlands you can buy pre-made packages and add your own ingredients to make hachee. Today we will Learn how to make hachee from scratch.

Dutch Beef Stew | Hachee

Hachee Ingredients

✿ 1 Tablespoon Butter
✿ 1 Onion
✿ 340 Milliliters Beef Broth
✿ 1 Bay Leaf
✿ 2 Cloves
✿ 1 Tablespoon Sugar
✿ Cornstarch

✿ 400 Stew Meat
✿ Salt & Pepper
✿ 1 Tablespoon Flour

Prepare Ingredients

Cut Ingredients.

Make Stew

Simmer For 2 Hours.

Season

Season To Taste And Simmer For Another 1 Hour.

Hachee With Mashed Potatoes

Serve

Serve With Mashed Potatoes.

Cut onions in strips.

Season stew meat to taste with salt and pepper. Coat meat with flour.





Sear meat on all sides. Sear in batches if using a small pan like me. Remove the meat from the pan and set aside. Add 1 tablespoon of butter to the pan. Cook onions until fragrant. Then add the meat. Add beef broth, bayleaf and cloves. Bring it to a boil and let it simmer for 2 hours.


After simmering for 2 hours add sugar, honey or molasses to taste. Let it simmer for another hour. Remove bay Leaf and cloves. Add cornstarch slurry to preferred thickness.






Serve with mashed potatoes and or braised red cabbage.
