What Is Oliebollen?
Let’s make a traditional dutch recipe today. OLIEBOLLEN!! Around November and December these delicious fried doughs will be sold everywhere in the Netherlands. You can find Oliebollen freshly made at food stalls or at fun fairs.
They sell plain Oliebollen or Oliebollen with filling in between the dough, like raisins, currants or apples.
You can compare Oliebollen to beignets or donuts. It's a dutch tradition to eat them during New Year's Eve.
How To Make Oliebollen?
Today I will teach you the basic recipe, on how to make oliebollen. As a kid I always liked the smell of fresh oliebollen when they sell them at stores or on the street. Nowadays I bake my Oliebollen at home! It has become a tradition to make them every year. You can enjoy the Oliebollen freshly made at home. And you can also Add your favorite filling to the dough if prefered.
We always serve them warm with powdered sugar on top!

Dutch Oliebollen
Oliebollen Ingredients
✿ 500 Grams Flour
✿ 500 Milliliters Milk
✿ 7 Grams Yeast
✿ 2 Tablespoons Sugar
✿ Pinch Of Salt
✿ 1 Egg

Activate the yeast with sugar and luke warm milk. Set aside for 5 minutes.
Sift the flour and add the salt. Slowly pour the yeast mixture to the flour while you keep stirring. Mix until everything is well combined. Add the egg and mix again until combined.
Cover the bowl with plastic film and let it rest at room temperature for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Heat up oil on low-medium heat. Take 2 spoons or a ice cream scoop and dip them in the oil. Scoop some dough and form them into a ball. Carefully slide the dough in the oil.
Deep fry until golden brown and crispy. Approx. 5 minutes.
Sprinkle with some powdered sugar and they’re ready to eat! ✿◕ ‿ ◕✿
TIPS & NOTES
✿ You can add your favorite filling to the dough like raisins, currants or apples.
✿ Best eaten while warm with some powdered sugar!
✿ You can reheat the oliebollen in the microwave.
